Finding Inspiration 19 Affirmations for HR and Workplace Leaders - Workology
Finding Inspiration 19 Affirmations for HR and Workplace Leaders - Workology List of Personal Affirmations for Workplace Leaders In January of this year, I committed myself to self-development and really digging into some areas that need my personal attention. You know the ones. They are those things about yourself that you know are there, but you choose to look past them and avoid them because its easier to do so. In order to grow as a human and in my business, I can no longer push past these things. One of those areas about myself is organization and planning. My fly by the seat of the pants attitude is hurting my personal development and career growth. While my witty personality and quibs have gotten me far, if I really want to succeed, I need to commit and grow. The truth is that people want to work with people they know, like, and trust. And part of trust is that your coworkers, partners, and clients can trust you are properly prepared, briefed, and organized. Earlier this year I was given a Panda Planner. Its a real-life paper planner that Im using to prioritize goals, assign tasks, and help organize my day. It feels strange to use a paper planner again going paperless in 2004 with my trusty Palm Pilot. The planner has given me focus and the satisfaction I feel when I cross a task off my to-do list. What I uncovered deep in the crevices when using this planner is something that Ive always known but tend to push away, and that is I have a lot of negative self-talk and imposter syndrome that likes to creep up on me. Up to 70% of self-talk is negative. Its time to change our internal dialogue. Click To Tweet The negative self-talk has always been there, and at times it is louder than others. Ive been able to combat it using meditation and also night-time self-hypnosis. I often hear a voice inside my head tell me that Im not good enough. The voice tells me Im not smart enough, Im a horrible person, and I dont deserve success. Those voices wake me up in the night and are with me in those quiet moments like on my drive home. The voices tend to creep up at certain points in my life when Im close to a breakthrough or going through a major change or handling stress. Research finds that 60-70 percent of our self-talk is negative. However, we tend to think its more on the positive side of things. The same research from the University of Texas found that our expectations for self-talk are 60-75% positive. Its only recently that Ive started talking back to my inner critic with positive affirmations and telling that voice they are wrong. How Personal Daily Affirmations Have Helped Me Part of the reason I love the Panda Planner is its focus is not just on organization and goal setting but also setting a daily, weekly, and monthly focus as well as an affirmation. This affirmation is something I focus on repeating it to myself several times a day and each time I check something off of my to-do list. Its been a great way to reinforce or remind myself that Im awesome in a focused way when the negative self-talk tries to rear its ugly head. Theres a lot of power in goals, setting intentions, and affirmations. I think its a great way to start a day, meeting, or as a gentle reminder to yourself that while you are a work in progress, and your contribution is welcomed and unique. Im not alone in my use of positive affirmations or the number of people especially women who experience negative self-talk themselves. I believe we all struggle with mental health from time to time. I crowdsourced some of my friends favorites they use in my own attempt to expand the affirmations I use. While I am adventurous, I tend to go with what I know. I have ordered the same Starbucks drink for nearly 13 years which is a caramel macchiato. Only recently, have I gotten out of my comfort zone abandoning my daily drink altogether opting for a nice black coffee with almond milk.
